Position Summary
Under supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse and according to established policies and procedures, performs various service duties and routine technical tasks such as taking vital signs and assisting patients with basic hygiene and daily living activities. Specific duties may vary by area of assignment. Consideration of the special needs and behaviors of specific patient populations is required.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
-Must be certified as a Nursing Assistant by the State of Georgia and be on the State of Georgia Registry.
-Must be certified in First Aid and CPR.
-Ability to perform simple arithmetic calculations.
-Interpersonal skills necessary to exchange information and maintain courteous relationships with patients, families, visitors and Medical Center employees.
-Ability to read, write and speak English in order to transcribe and communicate approved provider’s orders at a level normally acquired through a high school education.
-Knowledge of standards, policies, procedures and organizational structure of the unit, the Georgia Department of Community Health.
-Participates in ongoing education relative to role as defined.

Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) Duties:
-Provides patients’ personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.
-Provides for activities of daily living by assisting with serving meals, feeding patients as necessary; ambulating, turning, and positioning patients; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
-Provides adjunct care by administering enemas, douches, nonsterile dressings, surgical preps, ice packs, heat treatments, sitz and therapeutic baths; applying restraints.
-Maintains patient stability by checking vital signs and weight; testing urine; recording intake and output information.
-Provides patient comfort by utilizing resources and materials; transporting patients; answering patients’ call lights and requests; reporting observations of the patient to nursing supervisor.
-Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
-Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures.
-Protects organization’s value by keeping patient information confidential.

-Cleans rooms and makes patient beds
-Answers patient’s calls
-Converses with patients to provide assurance
-Assists in care and feeding of infants
-Manages supply inventory and supply requisitions
-Observes Universal Precautions
-Ability to follow written Nursing Care Plan
-Provides patient transportation to doctor appointments, outside activities and shopping
-Provides patient laundry and linen changes
