Medical Secretary
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Performs general office management duties; organizes, implements and maintains procedures for recording and filing various administrative forms, reports, and confidential medical information.
-Performs secretarial and related work to assist and relieve administrative personnel of clerical duties; types, interprets general policy, maintains physician’s calendar, schedules meetings and patient appointments, makes travel arrangements, attends meetings, etc.
-Initiates, under minimal guidance of physician, general patient and referring physician correspondence requiring the use of medical terminology. Reviews outgoing material and correspondence for internal consistency and conformance with procedures.
-Opens, dates and routes mail according to instructions; handles mailings to patients and physicians as required

Essential Functions: Will provide a number of services which include, but are no limited to: phone coverage; reception and triage of calls; scheduling appointments; and documentation of calls; sorting and distribution of mail; ordering of supplies, keeping in mind cost-containment; ensuring reports are sent to patient’s charts and/or physicians’ offices; copying and report transcription. Will transcribe reports with accuracy and in a timely manner; assist in procurement of reports for physician, scheduling procedures. Must demonstrate self-direction and professionalism by: identify areas of skill and knowledge, weakness; participating in educational activities; using the expertise of the clinic staff and supervisory staff in dealing with problems; participating in meetings; and being reliable and accountable on scheduled work days. Accountable for promoting the corporate philosophy of service excellence and guest relations by effectively relating with patients, their families, visitors, staff, and members of other disciplines and departments. Perform related duties as required

Specific Job Description Travel required on an as needed basis. Position is responsible for reviewing paper and electronic medical charts, interpreting and analyzing medical record documentation, and extrapolating pertinent health information.
