Position Description
Basic Function:
Entry level job assists the FSR with installing and maintaining gas meters, regulators, and other gas equipment, turning gas off and responding to both routine and emergency requests for gas service. Performs meter inspections and paints as needed to maintain compliance with atmospheric corrosion. Read meters and operate in the Automated Dispatch system for transferring and turning off customer premises.
Representative Duties and Responsibilities:
-Assists in setting gas meters, pressure-regulating devices, security/testing devices, etc., connecting gas lines installed by distribution crews to lines from customer premises.
-Assists in connecting and disconnecting gas service, manually turning meters on and off.
-Using leak detectors as well as natural senses (e.g., smell), locates gas leaks, decides on appropriate action and performs necessary repairs.
-Assists in performing scheduled inspections and maintenance of gas equipment such as meters, regulators, safety devices, etc. and records appropriate information.
-Assists with or conducts complete investigations of customer premises in response to questionable gas consumption (e.g. high bill complaints, stopped meters, etc.) and records appropriate information. Interacts with customers to answer questions, explain work performed, give instructions for operation of appliances, and promote gas usage.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
